You are the proud owner of a popular retail store and a shipment of exciting new items is arriving soon. However, your store has no room for the new shipment! You will have to choose items from your current inventory to put on sale so that you will have space for the new inventory.

Your
task is to create a sale to clear out the old items to make room for new items.
A.
Create a magazine or newspaper ad for each item that you choose to sell.

Newspaper ads on a poster.
b.
Magazine ads on paper.
B.
Complete a sale worksheet.

1.
Choose a retail store from the list.
2.
From that store, select ten items that are already on sale and find the
percent discount and record on the sale worksheet.
3.
Select ten regular price items.
Complete the sale worksheet.
Round to the nearest cent (hundredth).
4.
Give the sale worksheet to a classmate to be checked. The classmate should use a colored pencil to
circle any incorrect answers. The
classmate will sign and date your worksheet once they have checked your paper. You will correct any mistakes on the
worksheet and have it checked by your teacher.
5.
Choose which percent discount you would like to use for your sale. Highlight the column on your sale worksheet.
6.
Create a magazine/newspaper ad.
For each item, be sure to include:
a.
The name of the item.
b.
A brief description of the item.
c.
The regular price of the item.
d.
The sale price of the item.
e.
A picture of the item.
7.
Write an essay detailing your business plan. Please tell why you chose the retail
store. Describe what you learned from
researching the store’s current sale items.
State why you chose the ten items to place on sale as well as the
reasons why you chose the percent discount.
Tell which items you think might sell faster than others and why.

what you have learned with at least one other student. Hopefully you now see that the skills you
practice in class really are used in the real world.
Now
that you have completed the webquest, you have mastered three vital math
skills:

Finding percent discount.
2.
Finding percent of a number.
3.
Finding sales price.
As
you completed the sale worksheet, did you notice any patterns? Did you find a way to mentally compute the
percent discount? Which percent discount
do you think would clear out the old inventory in the least time? As a business owner, which percent discount
do you prefer?
